The USS Themis (NCC-76554) is a Ross-class | The USS Themis (NCC-76554) is a Ross-class Federation starship assigned to the Fourth Fleet's Odyssey Squadron for long-range exploration, scientific research, and multi-mission support operations in the Delta Quadrant. The Themis serves as the secondary command platform and provides supplementary strategic, scientific, diplomatic and tactical capability alongside the squadron flagship, the USS Odyssey.
The Themis is crewed predominantly by veterans of the Odyssey. This shared service contributes to a cohesive culture and robust operational readiness, supporting the ship’s mandate to revisit, expand, and refine knowledge of regions first charted by the USS Voyager during that vessel’s historic seven-year passage through the Delta Quadrant.
The Themis is | |||
In 2400, Starfleet Command appointed Captain Cambil Bexa, formerly the first officer of the Odyssey, to assume command of the Themis ahead of the squadron’s deployment to the Delta Quadrant. Since then, the Themis has operated alongside the Odyssey during numerous major operations and has participated in several significant events with implications for both the Federation and its ongoing exploration efforts.
==Design and Layout == | |||
The Themis is a standard Ross-class explorer that entered service in 2383 and has undergone continuous upgrades throughout its seventeen years of operation. Prior to its deployment with the Odyssey Squadron in 2400, Starfleet sent the vessel to Starbase 38 for its first major refit. This comprehensive overhaul modernised its systems, reinforced its long-range mission capability, and prepared the ship for sustained operations in the Delta Quadrant.
In keeping with the precedent set by her former commanding officer, Captain Cambil Bexa accepted command of the Themis on the condition that she be permitted to bring her family aboard. As a result, considerable attention was given during the refit to ensuring that family accommodations and safety protocols met the highest standards for a vessel expected to operate far from Federation support. Knowing that many of her crew would be far from their loved ones, Cambil was keen to ensure they could bring them along safely.
==== Bridge, Deck One ==== | One of the most significant upgrades involved a complete redesign of the ship’s expansive hangar bay. To accommodate a dedicated starfighter squadron, Starfleet engineers incorporated rapid-deployment systems based on successful configurations on Inquiry-class and Typhon-class vessels. The Themis can launch its full complement of fighters within seconds, greatly enhancing its defensive capabilities.
Additional modifications were made to expand the ship’s self-sufficiency and logistical support capacity. Extra industrial replicators were installed alongside new storage areas, allowing the Themis to assist in maintaining not only its own systems but also those of other vessels within the squadron. A large section of the ship was converted into an aeroponics complex to cultivate fresh produce, reducing dependency on food replicators and conserving onboard energy reserves. The installation of two automated refineries, one for dilithium and one for deuterium, enables the Themis to process and stockpile fuel resources for the squadron. The ship was also equipped with the latest enhanced sensor arrays Starfleet had to offer. Furthermore, hyper-subspace long-range communication technology was installed, and medical facilities were upgraded. Like the Odyssey herself, more redundant engineering and emergency power backups were installed to ensure operational resilience in regions where access to resources for repairs would be limited.
==== Main Bridge, Deck One====

The main bridge of the Themis is a hybrid design that combines elements from Galaxy-class and Sovereign-class starships.
At the centre of the bridge is the captain’s chair. To the right is the secondary command chair for the first officer, while the tertiary command chair to the left is typically occupied by a senior officer, usually the chief counsellor or mission advisor. At the forward part of the bridge, the helm station is located to the left and the operations station to the right. Three science stations line the port side, while the starboard side hosts Engineering and Missions Operations I and II. Behind the command circle is the primary tactical and security station, with the Master Situation Display (MSD) located further aft.
The bridge has six | The bridge has six points of access. Clockwise from the forward bulkhead, which contains the main viewscreen, a small alcove on the starboard side houses an emergency turbolift connecting the bridge to the battle bridge and main engineering in the stardrive section, and also provides access to a small head. Toward the rear of the bridge, a doorway opens onto a corridor leading to the large observation lounge, while the other rear door provides access to Turbolift One. Continuing around the bridge on the port side, another door leads to the captain’s ready room, and the final door connects to Turbolift Two.

Following the design tradition of its Galaxy-class cousins, the Themis’s ready room is located on the port side of the bridge, beside the forward port turbolift. The slightly enlarged interior provides space for hosting guests and conducting meetings.
Upon entering, a large painting of the Themis is mounted to the right of the entrance. Along the left wall, a food replicator leads to a curved alcove with the captain’s desk and chairs positioned for visitors. Two computer interfaces sit on the desk. Behind the desk, a shelf holds personal items. Further along this wall, a door leads to a private bathroom.
On the far wall, the original tall, narrow window found on Galaxy-class ships has been replaced by a wider viewport with a curved corner sofa beneath it. A second window on the opposite wall sits above a smaller table used by senior staff during meetings. Early in the ship’s service, a floor-mounted holographic communications device enabled subspace communication; it has since been removed and replaced by updated holo-projectors throughout the room.
==== Observation Lounge, Deck One ====
| |||
The observation lounge sits directly aft of the main bridge and functions primarily as the Themis’s conference and briefing room. Large windows along the back wall provide a clear view across the ship’s stardrive section. One whole wall is lined with illuminated display cases containing gold-plated models of previous starships to carry the name Themis, each accompanied by a discreet holo-plaque outlining its service record.
Integrated into the central bulkhead are several computer terminals and holo-emitters used to project real-time mission data, stellar cartography, or tactical overlays during briefings. The large, curved-rectangular conference table seats ten comfortably and features personal interface panels for attendees. Replicators and access doors are situated at either end of the room.
==== Battle Bridge, Deck Eight, Stardrive Section ====
| |||
The Themis’s battle bridge, located within the stardrive section, serves as the command centre whenever the ship separates, whether during combat or when mission objectives require the saucer and stardrive to operate independently. With the saucer section equipped with its own warp drive, this ability allows the Themis to cover more territory, respond to multiple tasks, or expedite mission timelines.
The battle bridge itself hosts fewer stations than the main bridge, but it carries everything necessary to command the stardrive section effectively. Though it is rarely activated for full operations, the crew keep their proficiency sharp through regular drills, ensuring the ship is always ready should a separation be required.

=== Refineries === | ===Refineries===
Located on the lower decks of the Themis | Located on the lower decks of the Themis, the ship’s automated refineries were installed as part of the major refit in 2400. These facilities allow the ship to process raw deuterium, dilithium, and other critical materials, converting them into forms suitable for the ship’s use or for distribution to other vessels in the squadron. The refineries can be brought online as needed, supporting extended missions and enhancing the operational self-sufficiency of both the Themis and the Odyssey Squadron.
In 2402, the refineries were adapted to allow for the squadron to refine benamite crystals in small quantities to allow the squadron to install quantum slipstream drives.
===Support Craft=== | |||
The Themis is equipped with three shuttle bays. The central bay is assigned a complement of twelve Valkyrie-class fighters, which can be deployed not only to provide additional firepower for the ship but also to operate alongside fighters launched from other vessels in the Odyssey Squadron during coordinated squadron manoeuvres or combat operations.
The Themis’ shuttle bays also have space and storage for spare parts and the ability to repair small damaged craft and construct new support craft.
During its refit in 2400, new shuttles and runabouts were added, each named after locations on Bajor, reflecting Captain Cambil's personal connection to her homeworld and its history.

The Themis was launched in 2383 from the San Francisco Fleet Yards in Earth orbit and initially assigned to routine patrols along the shared borders with powers like the Cardassian Union, the Klingon Empire, and the different Romulan states. The ship was placed under the command of Captain Kamzo, a Saurian officer, for whom this was his first command. Kamzo and his crew served aboard the vessel for over seventeen years, performing standard patrols, diplomatic escort missions, and other operations.
In anticipation of its reassignment to the Delta Exploration Initiative, Starfleet scheduled the Themis for a major refit ahead of the typical twenty-year service cycle. The vessel was docked at Starbase 38 for an extensive overhaul. During this period, the ship’s crew was temporarily reassigned to a brand new Vesta-class vessel to assist with Starfleet operations responding to the Century Storm. They remained on that ship and later participated in humanitarian missions following the collapse of the Star Empire of Rator and the declaration of independence by the different Romulan worlds in the Velorum Sector.
With the Themis temporarily inactive, Fourth Fleet Operations began the process of selecting a new captain and crew for its Delta Quadrant deployment. Captain Cambil Bexa was ultimately chosen to assume command. Over the remainder of the year, Bexa assembled her crew and oversaw the completion of the ship’s refit. Command was officially transferred in a short ceremony at the end of the year, marking the start of the Themis’s new role in long-range exploration.
=== 2401 === | |||
After its refit was completed and its new crew settled in, the Themis entered the Barzan Wormhole to travel to the Delta Quadrant. It rendezvoused with the USS Odyssey, USS Triton, and USS Bellerophon (the newly constituted Odyssey Squadron) at the Markonian Outpost.
During the squadron’s transit toward the Swallow Nebula, sensors scans detected an active Borg interlink frequency. While scanning a system briefly visited by Voyager, the squadron discovered the wreckage of a Borg vessel on a nearby moon. Several drones had survived the crash but were disconnected from the collective. The survivors requested assistance in recovering aspects of their former lives before assimilation. Among the wreckage, the squadron found a spatial trajector. One of the surviving drones stole a shuttle from the Triton to reactivate the device and reassert the hive mind’s control through the trajector.
The Themis and the Bellerophon sustained significant damage when the trajector was destroyed with tricobalt charges. The explosion ripped away nearly a quarter of the moon, leaving both ships heavily battered. Despite the damage, the mission was considered a partial success, having prevented the drone from becoming a threat to other worlds and having rescued the remaining Borg survivors. Following the incident, Turei vessels escorted the squadron to the nearest underspace aperture, facilitating their continued journey toward the Swallow Nebula.
| |||
After bypassing the Swallow Nebula, the Odyssey Squadron began exploration of a region designated the Kotaba Expanse. The Themis, alongside the Odyssey, played a key role in establishing relations with the Benthans. During a two-week stay at Bentheria II, the Themis hosted several lead Benthan engineers and scientists as part of a scientific and cultural exchange. The crew of the Themis joined their counterparts on the Odyssey in celebrating the signing of a commerce agreement with the Benthans, which included provisions for a minor mutual defence pact. The mission, however, was cut short when Starfleet ordered the entire squadron to return to the Alpha Quadrant to participate in Frontier Day.
Following their return to Starbase 38, the Themis underwent upgrades alongside the rest of the squadron, including enhancements to its transporter systems. The ship was then deployed to the Black Cluster to patrol near the Kzinti border.
The squadron was soon drawn into the Dominion Lost Fleet invasion of the Deneb Sector. Responding to a distress call from the Federation colony in the Divinum system, the Themis arrived to find the population decimated by a metagenic weapon. Working with elements of the Cardassian Third Order, the squadron located the responsible vessel, a heavily modified Jem’Hadar battlecruiser.
An away team from the Triton successfully boarded the Dominion ship, and the Themis assisted in transferring the kidnapped colonists into Federation custody. The ship later participated in the defence of Farpoint Station and returned to the Divinum colony to support relief efforts before preparing for Frontier Day celebrations on Earth. These battles were the first time the ship participated in significant conflicts.
In April 2401, the Themis participated in the Frontier Day celebrations, stationed in Earth orbit as part of a massive fleet assembled. During the event, the Borg Jupiter signal compromised the vessel, allowing the last remaining Borg Queen to seize control. Many junior crew members were partially assimilated through the Borg DNA recoding process, facilitated by the ship’s transporter systems, and turned against their fellow officers. The senior staff largely survived the initial outbreak of hostilities on the bridge, engaging in hand-to-hand combat with affected subordinates. Lieutenant Commander Trev, however, sustained fatal injuries during the chaos.
With much of the crew under Borg influence, the surviving senior officers quickly devised a countermeasure. Using the ventilation system, they planned to disperse neurozine gas throughout the decks to incapacitate the affected personnel. Captain Cambil ordered any remaining crew free from Borg control to evacuate the vessel before the gas was released. Survivors fled via escape pods or shuttles. While the plan rendered the junior crew unconscious, the Themis remained partly controlled by the Borg through Fleet Formation coding and suffered extensive damage from Sol Station, other orbital defence platforms, and when the USS Titan exploited the Themis’s prefix codes to lower its shields. After the Borg were defeated, the Themis, along with the rest of the Odyssey Squadron, were repaired enough to be sent to Starbase 38 for a complete overhaul.
After returning to the Swallow Nebula in the Delta Quadrant with the rest of the Odyssey Squadron, the Themis began working on diplomatic initiatives. These efforts were interrupted when the USS Constitution, recently assigned to the squadron, went missing. The Themis conducted extensive searches but was unable to determine the vessel’s fate. After a month, Captain Cambil was forced to declare the Constitution lost.
Several days later, Cambil reestablished contact with allies among the Benthans, hoping for assistance. During their time with the Benthans, the Themis discovered a log buoy sent by the Constitution, indicating that the crew was alive but stranded in a distant region of the Delta Quadrant. In a bold attempt to communicate, the Themis collaborated with the Benthans to open a micro-wormhole for a hyper-subspace message. The transmission, however, was blocked. The Themis immediately set out to investigate the source of the interference.
After several weeks at high warp, the ship determined that a temporal anomaly was obstructing the signal. The anomaly originated from a distant Krenim colony that had issued a distress call. With assistance from the USS Constellation, the Themis helped the colony deal with multiple temporal incursions caused by a device known as the Paradox Machine. During the rescue, both crews encountered several alternative timelines, many of which resulted from prior Starfleet interference in temporal incursions. Once the Paradox Machine was deactivated, the temporal rifts above the Krenim colony were sealed, allowing the crews of both ships to provide proper aid. The Themis attempted one final communication with the Constitution, but received no response.
Before the end of 2401, the Themis assisted the Odyssey after it was attacked by an Entharan privateer seeking to seize the ship. After several days of repairs while hiding in a class-nine nebula, the two ships fled the area but inadvertently entered an underspace corridor that delivered them to the far edge of Federation space in the Beta Quadrant. They arrived near Deep Space 17 in the Typhon Frontier, where both ships underwent additional repairs before receiving orders to proceed to Deep Space 19 in the Kovar system.
Upon arrival at Deep Space 19, the crews of the Themis and Odyssey observed that numerous underspace corridors were opening across the galaxy, indicating a widespread and potentially hazardous phenomenon. Starfleet, eager for the Odyssey Squadron to address the situation in the Delta Quadrant, ordered an expansion of the task group. The unexpected return of the USS Constitution, which had managed to navigate back on its own, surprised the crews of both the Themis and Odyssey. With the Constitution, along with the fully repaired Bellerophon and Triton, the squadron also incorporated the USS Destiny and USS Orion. The squadron passed through an aperture near Deep Space 19 and returned to the Swallow Nebula region to resume their mission and investigate the sudden proliferation of underspace corridors.
Initially unable to determine the source of the phenomenon, the Themis and the squadron soon encountered the same Cardassian forces who had assisted them at Devinium Four. The Cardassians were attempting to collapse the apertures. Despite the squadron’s efforts, they were unable to intervene in time, and the Cardassians successfully completed the operation while the Federation ships remained in the Delta Quadrant.
For the remainder of the year, the Themis was heavily involved in diplomatic operations throughout the Swallow Nebula, with a particular emphasis on establishing formal relations with the Krenim Imperium. During a visit to the Krenim colony on Kyanna Prime, the vessel was attacked by a radical faction of Krenim scientists and engineers previously encountered during the Paradox Machine incident. The group seized a prototype timeship and initiated an unauthorised temporal incursion. The Themis was pulled into the temporal vortex and followed them back in time and across the galaxy.
Their plan centred on preventing the Cardassian occupation of Bajor, believing that doing so would trigger a chain reaction that would lead to a vastly different Alpha Quadrant. In their calculations, a weakened Cardassian Union would eventually join the Federation under civilian rule, eliminating the Bajoran sector’s strategic significance and erasing the circumstances that led Voyager into the Badlands and across the galaxy. Convinced that Starfleet’s prior involvement had erased a timeline in which the Krenim became a dominant Delta Quadrant power, the radicals sought to restore what they viewed as their rightful future, regardless of the consequences. When an away team from the Themis captured most of the radicals and the remains of their timeship, the lead scientist, Doctor Irlina, however, escaped. Left with little option, Irlina planned to kill Captain Cambil’s father. She believed that preventing Cambil from being born would ensure certainty that the Themis would not be in a position to stop them from preventing the Cardassian occupation. Cambil stopped Irlina, and after recovering everything, the Themis was modified the Krenim technology to return them to Kyanna Prime in the 25th century.
=== 2402 === | |||
The diplomatic initiatives the Themis had been conducting throughout the Swallow Nebula were abruptly halted at the start of 2402. Along with the rest of the Odyssey Squadron, the ship was forcibly displaced across the quadrant to the Nacene Reach after Captain Zack Marshall-Bennet of the Destiny was transformed by a being claiming to be a Nacene. She wanted him to be her new mate, but he instead used his newfound abilities to get away from her and move the squadron thousands of light-years. Bennet’s motives for relocating the squadron were not immediately understood. The transition inflicted significant damage on every vessel, and for the first time since the squadron’s formation, the Themis assumed the lead role in coordinating repairs. Sheltering within a field of neutron stars, the squadron spent several weeks restoring critical systems, severely depleting both supplies and reserves.
To replenish what they had lost, the Themis and the Constitution broke cover and travelled to Rakosa V, a world previously assisted by Voyager. Captain Cambil opened diplomatic talks with the Rakosan First Minister and secured a trade agreement that provided the resources required to sustain the squadron. During the stay at Rakosa, the crew also completed installing a quantum slipstream drive, part of a wider effort ordered by Commodore McCallister to equip all ships with the technology. Plans to use the drive systems to return to Federation space were suspended when reports emerged of Vaadwaur activity in the region. Working with the Rakosans and their neighbouring worlds, the Themis helped initiate early discussions on mutual defence arrangements.
The Vaadwaur threat escalated quickly. When the Themis was recalled to support the rest of the squadron in defending the Talaxian and Haakonian homeworlds, the ship led a Rakosan fleet to join the combined Starfleet–Haakonian–Talaxian forces. Their collective efforts successfully repelled the Vaadwaur assault and pushed them back into underspace. This cooperation laid the foundation for what became the Delta Coalition, which later expanded as additional regional powers joined and Starfleet reinforcements arrived in the form of the Constellation Squadron. Throughout the conflict, the Themis participated in every major engagement, especially after the discovery that Vaadwaur forces had simultaneously targeted the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. The Vaadwaur had almost crippled everyone back home, and it was now down to the Odyssey and Constellation Squadrons to be the Federation’s line of defence in stopping the Vaadwaur.
As part of the coalition’s final campaign, the Themis joined the combined fleet in locating the Vaadwaur’s new homeworld at the edge of the Nacene Reach, bordering the Nekrit Expanse. Using multiple underspace corridors to converge on the world, the coalition forces fought through significant resistance and, with the use of Borg interlink frequencies, succeeded in capturing the central control hub for the Vaadwaur automated orbital weapon platforms. Turning them against their builders, the coalition wiped out a significant portion of the Vaadwaur fleet. The collapse of these defences forced the Vaadwaur leadership to agree to a ceasefire. With the simultaneous defeat of their footholds in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, the Vaadwaur knew they could no longer succeed. They had not prepared for any of the powers in the Nacene Reach to unite together against them, especially as they had installed sleeper agents over the centuries who had pursued a hidden agenda of keeping the region unstable, from the Vidiian Phage, the Kazon uprising against the Trabe, the conflict between the automated personnel of Cravic and Pralor races or the Haakonian-Talaxian war. They had not seen just how powerful the Federation's diplomatic efforts could be in bringing everyone together.
Not wanting them to try such things again against anyone, one of the agreements in the ceasefire was ensuring the Vaadwaur did not rebuild their forces to such a degree. The Themis subsequently assisted in establishing monitoring stations throughout the region to prevent any future resurgence.
With the conflict concluded, the Delta Coalition was formally disbanded due to widespread casualties and severe infrastructural damage. The Themis returned to Rakosa, where the Rakosan government expressed interest in pursuing renewed diplomatic dialogue among its neighbours to stabilise the region after generations of unrest. Captain Cambil agreed to assist in these efforts following Starfleet’s decision that the Odyssey Squadron would remain in the Nacene Reach to support relief operations and continue exploratory duties.
In mid-2402, the Themis was undertaking a mapping mission of unexplored space in the Nacene Reach.

The USS Themis (NCC-76554) is a Ross-class Federation starship assigned to the Fourth Fleet's Odyssey Squadron for long-range exploration, scientific research, and multi-mission support operations in the Delta Quadrant.
Design and Layout
One of the most significant upgrades involved a complete redesign of the ship’s expansive hangar bay.
Main Bridge, Deck One

The bridge has six points of access.
Ready Room, Deck One

Observation Lounge, Deck One

Battle Bridge, Deck Eight, Stardrive Section

Specific Technical Information
Emergency Holographic Programs
Like so many other ships in the fleet, the Themis was equipped with a range of holographic crew members to assist in emergency situations. When an entirely new system was installed in 2400, Captain Cambil had the appearance of each hologram altered to make them look Bajoran.
- Emergency Command Hologram:
- Taban (Male)
- Emergency Navigation Hologram:
- Aroya (Female)
- Emergency Medical Hologram:
- Korena (Female)
- Emergency Engineering Team:
- Rahl (Female)
- Antos (Male)
- Wilkarah (Female)
- Emergency Tactical Hologram:
- Landi (Male)
Furthermore, the ship’s hospitality holograms, which are mainly found in crew lounges, mess halls, and bars, are also Bajoran in appearance.
Refineries
Located on the lower decks of the Themis, the ship’s automated refineries were installed as part of the major refit in 2400.
Support Craft

History
2383-2400
2401

2402
