Category:Beta Quadrant
The Beta Quadrant is the designation for one-quarter of the galaxy, adjacent to the Alpha Quadrant and the Delta Quadrant. The designation originated with the United Federation of Planets, who drew a border between the Alpha and Beta Quadrants at the Sol System. Approximately half of the Federation's territory lies in the Beta Quadrant, with the Klingon Empire and the Romulan Factions of the Old Romulan Star Empire as the next largest and influential governments. Due to their size, the Beta Quadrant has historically been more stable than the Alpha; until the collapse of the Romulan Empire, borders shifted historically only under expansionist policies of the Klingon Empire, often kept largely in check by both Romulans and the Federation. The Romulan Supernova has brought about a fresh period of shifting borders and changing power dynamics, however, such as the collapse of the Romulan Neutral Zone.
