D'deridex System
The D'deridex system is a unary star system located in the Beta Quadrant within the Romulan Republic. It is one of the most significant and well-populated systems close to the border of the Klingon Empire.
Overview
Named for the Praetor who led the Romulan Star Empire during the mid-22nd century during the Earth-Romulan War, the D'Deridex system was home for over two hundred years to a thriving Romulan colony. It became one of the most thriving settlements in the Empire that supported a number of smaller populated worlds nearby. A major export for the colony was deuterium mined from the three large gas giants in the system.
D'Deridex has two Class M worlds, similar to Romulus and Remus, which are densely populated with over eight billion Romulans living on these worlds. Most of these people are farmers, with agricultural industry extending to both the land and sea.
When the Romulan Star Empire collapsed, D'Deridex saw an influx of Romulans who fled to the system. This placed a significant strain on the planets and their resources. Many refugees took whatever work they could find on these farms. Though these extra hands helped the farmers be less dependent on automated systems, it has meant that less was exported to nearby worlds.
Furthermore, when the Star Navy was no longer able to defend the colony, the planetary's defences fell to ill-repair. Now part of the Romulan Republic, the system still struggles to feed all mouths in the system and relies on the export of its deuterium mining systems to pay for food sent in from Federation border worlds that are able to trade. The system was home to a shipyard and starship research and development facilities that was significantly important to the Romulan Star Empire. Since the late 2390s, these stations are barely operational and are only used to refuel and provide basic maintenance and repairs to passing civilian ships.
In Play
- D'Deridex was at one point the pinnacle of Romulan colonisation. Now, it is a system struggling to support its vast population. The Republic strives hard to support these people with help from other agricultural worlds and through trade routes from the Federation.
- Its defences, once powerful, are now old and poorly maintained.
- On more than occasion has Starfleet Intelligence discovered that Klingon Houses located along the border have considered attacking and raiding the system.
