Boreth System
The Boreth System is an inhabited star system in the Klingon Empire. It is a unary star system consisting of the M-class star Boreth and at least three planets located in the Beta Quadrant. The planets known as Boreth and Boreth A are a pair of closely orbiting planetary bodies, which has led to either being referred to as planets and moons interchangeably. Although the planet Boreth is sparsely populated, it holds great significance to the spiritual beliefs of the Klingon Empire. Klingon mythology long told of Kahless the Unforgettable promising to one day return from Sto-vo-kor to the Boreth system.
Overview
From a sacred text known as The Story of Promise, Kahless the Unforgettable left the Klingon people to strike their own path, and he promised to one day return to the star Boreth in the night sky of Qo'nos. Soon after the Klingons achieved warp travel, the planet Boreth was one of their earliest colony worlds. Boreth is a planet of extremes, from frigid alpine mountains to extensive lava flows. It is also one of the only locations where time crystals are known to grow naturally. Followers of Kahless built a monastery on Boreth and allowed for nearly no contact with outsiders for centuries. The few inhabitants of the monastery are clerics, monks and scientists. There are no other cities or dwellings on Boreth, aside from the monastery.
Towards the end of the 24th century, the clerics of the Boreth Monastery created a clone of Kahless and installed him as the Klingon emperor. As of 2401, Kahless II has remained on Boreth in his figurehead position. Chancellor Martok was en route to Boreth to seek spiritual guidance in mid-2401 when he went missing. Given the sacred importance of Boreth, the [[[Klingon Defense Force]] maintains an outpost known as Boreth Station on the outskirts of the star system, a respectful distance away from the monastery world.
In Play
- Boreth is an isolated and desolate star system that has been largely untouched by the conquering spirit of the Klingon Empire. Aside from the small colony of Boreth Monastery, the planet is largely uninhabitable, with few desirable natural resources aside from time crystals. Boreth is extremely precious to the Klingon Empire due to its legendary status and remaining the home of Emperor Kahless II.
