USS Vanguard

From Bravo Fleet

"Nos Ducimus"
    —We Lead

USS Vanguard (NCC-75148) is a Ross-class Federation starship currently assigned to Fourth Fleet.

Fourth starship to bear the name, the USS Vanguard has enjoyed a checkered history. Launched in 2385. She was the last Ross-class and one of the final vessels to be produced by the Utopia Planitia Fleetyards before their destruction. She served with distinction during the evacuation of Romulus in 2386, but was withdrawn from service when her entire crew and systems were assimilated by the Borg Collective during the events of Frontier Day in 2401.

After undergoing an extensive program of refit and refurbishment that included the purging of Borg nanotechnology from her systems, the USS Vanguard was re-launched and assigned to duty with the Prophyrion Carrier Division, under the command of veteran Starfleet CO, Captain Byr Th'zhorihr. The explorer is tasked with the warp-transport of the Typhon-class carrier between its assigned AORs in the former DMZ and provides a core to larger formations, providing a long-range base of fire with her powerful weapons complement.

Able to operate independently, the USS Vanguard fulfils the Task Force 72 mandate of diplomacy, conducting minor First Contact, Second & Third Contact, Soft-power projection, Diplomatic engagement and missions of Humanitarian aid.

Layout

Bridge

Situated on Deck-1, the Bridge of the USS Vanguard reflects the design ethic common to vessels produced in the 2380's. Blue and burgundy carpeting cover the deck, and whilst the bridge conforms to the general layout and design common to her sister class, the Galaxy-class explorer, the systems of the Ross-class hold more in common with the Sovereign-class. The Main Systems Display (MSD) board is directly behind the console arch where the Tactical station is situated.

Immediately in front is the alcove where the captain's chair is flanked by the seating typically inhabited by the executive officer and other VIPs. Fore of that position are the helm console to the CO's right and the operations console to their left. The portside houses the comms, engineering and flight ops stations, whilst to starboard are the general science, mission ops and advanced sensors duty stations.

Turbolifts to the rear of the C&C space connect the bridge to the rest of the ship, and forward & adjacent to the screen are the doors to the captain's ready room to port and the conference room to starboard.

The Promenade

Particular to the Ross-class explorers is the generous promenade situated on Deck-7 in the saucer section, that affords breathtaking panoramic views and houses the Vanguard's main lounge area, The Last Resort. In addition, the promenade links to the ships' holodecks, holosuites & arboretum and is served with a number of configurable lounge and congress areas that are serviced by a range of specialized Special Services Holograms (SSH) that can be programmed to create a welcoming space for a myriad of alien cultures and species. A busy social calendar ensures that there is always something lively taking place on the promenade, be it a concert, symposium or street market.

Hazardous Situation Response Team - "Vanguard"

Whilst his career has ostensibly been one of peace and diplomacy, Captain Th’zhorihr has come to appreciate the flexibility afforded by fielding a Hazard Team aboard his ship.

The Hazardous Situation Response Team, more commonly referred to as the ‘Hazard Team’, is a special unit stationed aboard many Starfleet vessels, intended for use on away missions and other situations where heavy combat is anticipated. Drawn from a starship or Starbase’s personnel, these crewmembers take on additional duties of elite training and hazardous missions to step up when they are needed.

Despite this combat training and mission profile, Hazard Teams bring a wide range of technical, medical, and scientific skills to any operation, providing more versatility than a simple security team.

Trained by Commander Mor’Gath and the Tactical Training Hologram (TTH) the small, 6-person Hazard Team “Vanguard” may be relatively ‘green’ but they more than make up for this lack of experience with their adaptability.
