TF47 Wildfire Scenario
More actions

The effects of the Wildfire Phenomenon are wreaking havoc on the Cestus Sector Block, and Task Force 47 finds itself at a key junction in the region, with its foothold at the starbase K-74. As a launching point for exploratory missions, in recent months, TF47 has hosted allied ships and foreign scientists here, making ready for more pathfinding expeditions. The timing of this chaos means that TF47, rather than engaging in its traditional work of journeying to new regions through diplomatic coordination with allies and locals, must now call on those relationships it has spent years building. Today, Starfleet is not venturing abroad to help. Starfleet's friends have come to help, particularly the affiliate Klingon and Romulan Republic ships and crews aiding the Fourth Fleet.
Krios Prime and Valt Minor have reported increased movement in their vicinity, and local communications indicate growing concern over possible Gorn activity. Task Force 47 has been tasked with investigating these reports, reinforcing vulnerable positions, and monitoring the surrounding region for raids, reconnaissance, or other hostile movement.
K-74 sits directly within the affected area and is the task force's most important operational anchors as the situation develops. Its proximity to threatened colonies makes it a natural hub for patrol coordination, intelligence sharing, emergency response, and civilian support. At the same time, increased traffic, frightened civilians, damaged vessels, conflicting reports, and demands for protection may all converge there.
Local unrest remains a significant concern in several nearby star systems. Evacuation is being discussed in more than one system, and an uncontrolled departure could place civilian traffic directly into contested or poorly monitored space. Others are demanding visible protection or stronger military presence from Starfleet. The immediate task is not simply to secure individual worlds, but to determine what is driving the panic, identify which communities are genuinely at risk, and establish enough confidence in the Task Force response to prevent uncontrolled evacuations or wider chaos.
Gorn activity through the region remains difficult to assess. Rather than a single force, reports suggest scattered contacts, short-duration incursions, unexplained sensor signatures, and possible reconnaissance near isolated systems. Some reports will prove credible - others may be misidentifications or panic amplified by incomplete information. Establishing which contacts represent genuine Gorn activity, identifying patterns in their movement, and determining whether these incidents are isolated raids or preparation for a broader operation will be critical to the Task Force response
Coordination with Klingon Empire and Republic forces will form an important part of the response. Klingon vessels are operating along adjacent sections of the frontier, and effective cooperation includes sharing sensor contacts, coordinating patrol sectors, passing suspected hostile movements across jurisdictional boundaries, and conducting joint or mutually supporting operations. Captains expect differences in threat assessment, rules of engagement, and preferred responses to Gorn activity, meaning that maintaining clear communication and avoiding gaps, duplicated coverage, or unintended escalation is essential.
Encounters
These concepts below are story prompts any writer can use to tell their story. All the TF47 encounters are unique, which means any member interested in writing one of these prompts should contact their TF staff first. It is perfectly acceptable to use these ideas as inspiration for a similar story using a different location or ship.
Encounter 1 - Claimed 10/16/26
While heading towards Starbase K-47, your ship has been called to deal with a disturbance a couple lightyears away between a Federation ship and Klingon vessel. Upon arrival, you find that a Gorn Crewmate on the Federation ship (an NPC ship or TF asset) has gone rogue and attacked a Klingon and Federation officer. They did not survive their injuries.
Federation law indicates and requires the Gorn be taken into custody and put on trial. However, most of the Klingon ship's staff - and its Captain - believe that the crew member must be put to death for his crimes. He is currently being held on the Federation ship.
With high tensions as is, a very important choice must be made to keep the peace. One wrong move could spell diplomatic disaster if not handled properly, and any admirals or higher ranking officials are days away. The ships will be at K-47 in exactly one day.
Encounter 2
Whilst on patrol, your ship's sensors pick up that a Kriosian colony is at extreme risk of a natural geological disaster (a star breaking apart in the atmosphere, a change in the tide from the moon, etc) coming towards them. Your ship is assigned to temporarily evacuate them and evaluate the situation at hand. When arriving, however, the people of the colony actively reject Federation aide. They are untrustworthy of anyone involved with what they call the Gorn's ''end of civilized life''. The colony leader is extremely stubborn.
To add even more urgency to the situation, the geological natural disaster will most surely cause mass loss of life if evacuation is not held. Attempts to tell or show their leaders have been proven futile. They are not as technologically advanced as most other local colonies. They cannot see the disaster as quickly as Federation technology can.
Encounter 3- Claimed 10/16/26
One of the transport convoys from Ardana have been seized by the Gorn. The materials on board are extremely important to scientific research on Kayvok, where scientests from there have emphasized heavily that the cargo must not be damaged.
Within the ship itself, if the systems detect extreme hull and ship distress, the supplies could release into space as a failsafe. However, these will not be able to withstand the conditions and will be ruined.
The Gorn have no idea how to operate the inside of the ship in their current state. There's no telling what they could break or cause a situation with if left unattended. The supplies inside, if combusted, could cause multiple irregular weather patterns in nearby colonies if too much is released into their atmosphere.
The ships autopilot will deliver the Gorn to the planet in exactly three days. Klingon forces are told to destroy the ship and everything on it by day three, which will ruin potential leaps in technological advances.
