The USS Highlander is a Nebula-class exploratory cruiser that currently serves in the Fourth Fleet's Task Force 21. The Highlander is primarily tasked with completing a slow, meticulous patrol between Starbase 611 and Deep Space 2 along the Federation-Gorn border. Even with her age, the Highlander is one of the most advanced, heavily armed ships regularly assigned to this patrol route.

History

The Highlander was launched in 2368 from the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. The Highlander soon became a veteran of both the conflict with the Borg as well as the Dominion War. When the war came to a close, the Highlander was reassigned to patrol along the Romulan Neutral Zone. After the Shinzon Incident, the Highlander was part of a Federation relief task force sent into Romulan space. A few short years later, the Highlander continued those efforts as a part of the Romulan evacuation.

By 2394, the Highlander had completed a two year long repair and refit and was reassigned to the Federation-Gorn border. At the border, which had been long forgotten by the Federation, the Highlander joined a small group of ships that were well beyond their prime.

Captain Michael Walsh, Commanding Officer — A Human male, Captain Walsh is a veteran officer known for his strategic brilliance and dedication to the ideals of Starfleet. Originally seeing the assignment as a punishment, he eventually took it as a challenge to help maintain a long forgotten strategic border with a long forgotten potential enemy.
