The USS Ulysses was commissioned on Stardate 72246.58 in early 2395 at the San Fransisco Fleet Yards in orbit of Earth. The ship was initially assigned to Captain Helena D. Laurent, a decorated officer known for her expertise in scientific and exploratory missions.

Shortly after its commissioning, the Ulysses embarked on a shakedown cruise to test its systems and capabilities. The cruise took the starship through Sol's neighboring sectors, where it conducted various scientific experiments, tested its warp capabilities, and engaged in simulated combat scenarios. The shakedown cruise was a resounding success, with all systems performing beyond expectations.

Exploratory Missions (2396-2398)

From late 2395 to 2398, the USS Ulysses was assigned to deep space exploration in the Beta Quadrant. This period was marked by numerous first-contact missions and charting of previously unexplored regions. Captain Laurent and her crew made several significant discoveries, including:

• The Kelephan System: The Ulysses discovered seven habitable planets with unique ecosystems. Extensive surveys provided valuable data for Federation scientists.

In addition to scientific and exploratory missions, the Ulysses played a key role in several diplomatic efforts. One notable mission involved mediating a territorial dispute between two warp-capable species, the Avronians and the Keladans.
