The USS Shanghai is Galaxy-class explorer assigned to Fourth Fleet.

Recent History

The Shanghai was chosen to lead a group of explorers beyond deep space and to a new, unexplored section of the galaxy far rim-ward from Federation lines and the Reayan Transit Corridor. With fresh retrofits and a new crew she set out on a mission of exploration with little more than a small cadre of ships in tow. Deep in the Auriga Perseus section of the galaxy, the Shanghai watched over the early stages of the colony efforts. While exploring this new world something happened, though – a local power known as the Protectorate, a union of numerous species from the region with a reckless use of technologies such as chroniton weaponry and nanotech, set upon the Federation explorers with no obvious provocation. The ensuing battle was quick, but it had lasting implications and would end with stranding the explorers. Now, with only a trickle of reinforcements from the Fleet, Shanghai and her crew has a clear path laid out before it: protect the fledgling Golovin Colony, explore the region, repair the damage dealt to the region, and try to find common ground with the peoples they find there.
