Lakota Squadron

From Bravo Fleet
(Redirected from Hypatia Squadron)

Lakota Heavy Cruiser Squadron, commonly known as Lakota Squadron, was a Fourth Fleet command unit assigned to Task Force 47 and later Task Force 17. Centred on the USS Lakota, it conducted rapid-response operations throughout Federation space and the Shackleton Expanse. Its final formation included Starfleet vessels alongside allied ships seconded from the Klingon Empire and Romulan Republic.

Lakota Squadron was disbanded in 2403 after several of its assigned vessels and personnel were reassigned to other duties.

2401

Lakota Squadron was established in 2401 around the starships Lakota, Buran, and Osiris. Following changes to its operational requirements later that year, Buran and Osiris were replaced by Hypatia, Proxima, and Proteus. These additions broadened the squadron's scientific, exploratory, tactical, humanitarian, and engineering capabilities.

In November 2401, Proxima departed when Captain Kelvan Vos and its crew were reassigned to Deep Space 11. Vos subsequently assumed command of the squadron from Fleet Captain Keziah Nazir. Further personnel and vessel reassignments later that year reduced the size of the formation, which was reorganised around Hypatia under Nazir's acting command.

2402

The formation was formally redesignated Hypatia Squadron in 2402. Its principal vessels during this period included Hypatia, Al-Batani, and Cardenas, which were assigned to operations in the Shackleton Expanse.

Working alongside Wasp and Mok'tal, the formation conducted operations in the Nareen and Nihor systems. These missions included investigating an ancient structure in the Nareen system and making contact with the Nihari and the Draxan Imperium.

Following the operations at Nihor, Starfleet appointed Commodore Jaro Oak to command the formation. Paulson was assigned as his command ship and served as a mobile base of operations in the Nihor system. Its addition expanded and formalised the squadron's command structure.

2403

At the beginning of 2403, Al-Batani departed the formation and the Lakota returned. The unit subsequently resumed the name Lakota Squadron. Commodore Oak was appointed as Lakota's commanding officer, Captain Noli Auru, as deputy squadron commander.

The IKS Qovin, a vessel of the House of VaQor, was later seconded to the formation. Following the recall of Paulson, the squadron's remaining assets were reorganised around Lakota and the Orpheus Heavy Escort Division. Orpheus, Cardenas, Omaha, and the Romulan Republic vessel Lhorakis formed the squadron's final supporting group.

Later in 2403, several of the squadron's vessels and personnel were reassigned to other duties. With its remaining command structure dissolved, Lakota Squadron was formally disbanded.
