House of VaQor
More actions
A modest house of the Klingon Empire nearly 200 years old, the house's bloodline can be traced back as far as the early 23rd century, and the emergence of the great military leader VaQor. The House only rose to prominence during the volatile years that followed the signing of the Khitomer Accords, when VaQor served as a capable fleet commander in the Klingon Defense Force.
Origins
Born in 2216, VaQor was a part of the Great House of K’Vareth, a politically sophisticated house with great influence at a time of instability, when the Empire was largely divided and dominated by shifting alliances and challenges. K’Vareth himself held a minor seat on the council, politically aligned with several of the great, dominant houses of the time. By the time he reached maturity, VaQor had long been positioned for greatness as part of K’Vareth’s growing fleet. Finally joining the Klingon Defense Force in 2236, VaQor served on the IKS Voq’leng as a weapons officer, before moving on to roles aboard several other warships, including the Qaw’tej, and later the MupwI’ as first officer. His tours of duty came at a time of border incidents and skirmishes with an ever-expanding United Federation of Planets and, like many Klingons, VaQor detested the Federation and everything they stood for. Excelling in battle on several occasions, he finally became Captain of his own ship, the Quorval, in 2255 following the death of his friend and mentor, Kol’neth.
At the outbreak of war with the Federation in 2256, VaQor joined other ships of his house as they rallied behind T’Kuvma and his call to arms, joining other Houses at the Battle of the Binary Stars. With T’Kuvma’s death, the houses competed for glory once again, with multiple assaults on the Federation from all angles. As Federation outposts and planets fall, the Empire claimed significant amounts of new territory. VaQor continued to distinguish himself in battle, but was faced with an even greater challenge - the burgeoning respect he began to feel for his adversaries. Growing frustrated with the political machinations of the Council, including K’Vareth himself, VaQor set about a great victory, defeating four Federation starships in battle with only his own ship. When the war ended in 2257, Chancellor L’Rell and K’Vareth granted VaQor the right to create his own house.
Marrying Laenor of the House of Morvath, the House of VaQor was officially formed. Though small and politically irrelevant for the most part, VaQor positioned his family as vassals of K’Vareth, trying to use what influence he had to shift his families stance on their former foes. While many sought glory through reckless escalation of tensions, VaQor grew his house through calculated dominance and mergers with other small families. By the time of the signing of the Khitomer Accords, VaQor had secured himself a minor seat on the High Council under the Chancellorship of Gorkon. Following the Chancellor’s assassination, VaQor played a key role in persuading Azetbur to honour her father’s vision and declare a lasting peace with the Federation.
While travelling back to Qo’noS from Camp Khitomer aboard the flagship of his house, the K't'inga-class IKS Luk’val, VaQor engaged several Orion marauders threatening the Klingon world of No’Mat. VaQor fought to the end, and died an honourable death, sacrificing ship and crew in the name of the Empire. The House of VaQor passed to his son, Drekar.
In the years that followed, rather than pursuing the growth of the Empire through conquest, the heirs of VaQor preserved their honoured doctrine - honour must serve the Empire, not ego. In the early 24th century, several mid-tier houses fractured, with Drekar, Son of VaQor, pledging his house to that of House of Koloth as vassals with military autonomy while gaining the political protection of one of the Great Houses of the Klingon Empire.
As of 2403, the House of VaQor has shrunk considerably, but still holds significance and political power with the House of Koloth. VaQor is located in the Gamma Eridon system and is controlled by K’morath, the great-great-great-grandson of VaQor, fifth-generation head of the House. From their vantage point here, the house serves as the eyes and ears for Koloth within the Triangle, keeping their leader up to date on developments, and serving as a quick reactionary force to any developing situation.
