USS Wells
The USS Wells NCC-28464 is a Niagara-class assigned to the Fourth Fleet's Task Force 86 for deep-space patrol, recon, transport, and recovery missions in The Triangle. It is currently under the command of Captain Grigor Eisenberg-Sloane. Officially, the ship is based out of Acamar III, but recent tensions have shifted its practical home port to Starbase 86.
History
The Wells was one of several Niagara-class starships returned to active service following the Frontier Day attack while damaged ships were being repaired. In the uncertainty of Starfleet's ability to project power throughout the Alpha and Beta quadrants, the Wells was assigned to Acamar III to fly the flag and show that despite the recent attack, it was still capable of protecting the Federation and continuing its mission of exploration and aid. Given their familiarity with the region, the crew of the USS Erigone under Grigor Eisenberg-Sloane was reassigned to the Wells as the senior staff. In the year since, the Wells has primarily performed deep-space patrol and recon missions, with the occasional transport and recovery runs to move supplies and aid ships in distress.
Configuration
In deference to operations in and around the Azure Nebula, the Wells has been fitted with higher powered sensor arrays capable of higher resolution scanning than those usually found on Niagara-class starships. The resulting increase in sensor capability allows the ship to function more capably deeper within the Azure nebula, but at the expense of drawing power away from tactical systems. As a result, the decision of whether to 'see or shoot' is weighed carefully when going into potentially hazardous situations in and around the nebula.
