Orion
Orion (Beta Orionis IV) is the homeworld for the Orion species, the center for at least one Orion empire of antiquity and currently the pride of the Orion Free States. Found in the Beta Orionis System with Vondem, a former colony world and now Federation member, Orion maintains a neutral position with all of its neighbours.
Overview
Orion has been a space-faring world in the galaxy for centuries. The fortunes of the Orion people have varied from prosperous imperial dynasties, fractured dominions and occupied territories over their history, but one thing has remained consistent - Orion itself has maintained its splendour and magnificence, even at the expense of its colonies.
An independent world in the modern era, Orion benefits from de facto protection from the United Federation of Planets. Despite tumultuous recent history, including an era of fragmented planetary governance only resolved in the 2370s, Orion still maintains an air of imperial majesty, suffused with the needs and demands for dense urbanisation and modernity by less refined elements of society.
Slavery on Orion was only technically outlawed in 2375 as part of efforts to ease tense relations with the Federation, especially after Vondem joined. Despite this, tensions with the Federation remain complex as Orion fiercely defends its independence and neutrality.
In Play
- Orion is a rich, complex, beautiful world. It is equal parts a member of the modern interstellar society as well as delusional about its importance and grandeur.
- Orion may present a unified front to the galaxy at large, but at home ‘cut-throat’ politics can be quite literal. Who one is, is far less important than which family you represent.
- Bustling nightlife to idyllic country estates and everything in between can be found here. Tradition keeps the latter alive, with Orions fiercely protective of their history and the connection to ancient glories it holds.
