Covenant Heavy Explorer Division is a division of Fourth Fleet operating under Task Force 72.
Centered around the Odyssey-class USS Covenant, the Covenant Division is tasked with conducting 'Fly - the - Flag' cruises along the contested border regions of the Federation. Designed to counter the impression that the United Federation of Planets is in a state of decline, the USS Covenant conducts missions of diplomacy and humanitarian aid, projecting 'soft-power' and a timely reminder that Starfleet still represents a potent force to be reckoned with.
With the capabilities akin to a 'mobile starbase', the covenant provides not only a fleet - coordination role, but also acts as a support hub for smaller starships deployed in its AOR. With both a considerable onboard engineering compliment, the USS Covenant also fields an embarked team from the Starship Corps of Engineers and is able to provide sufficient resupply and repair operations to enable smaller Starfleet vessels to return to thier own Starbase to effect more extensive repairs.
With extensive conferencing and recreational facilities, the USS Covenant provides a welcome respite for visiting crews seeking R&R away from the confines of thier own vessels, in addition to representing a premier platform for complicated Diplomatic congress and First Contact activities.
Supported by the Aquarius-class USS Fury, this integrated Escort vessel provides support as both a patrol - craft and mobile platform to deploy different specialist away teams, independent of the Flagship's primary mission. Operated by a standby 'Skeleton Crew', the roster of the USS Fury is complimented by the Mission Specialists it deploys with.
The Inquiry-class USS Interceptor is attached to the Division, forming part of the defensive screen on picket - duty when in formation. Otherwise the vessel operated in its generalist capacity, with a defensive focus on border security and interdiction missions.
