Nareen

Planet PX-921, known locally as Nareen, is located deep in the Shackleton Expanse, approximately twenty lightyears from the Draxan System, and ten lightyears from Harha’kuva. Occupied by the Nihari until some three hundred years ago, the planet is now a relatively barren wasteland.
Ancient Ruins and Artefacts
Evidence of life on Nareen is linked to the presence of ruins that were initially dated at three thousand years old, but later confirmed to be six millennia old. These relics, partly buried beneath the sand but still towering above the desert landscape, consisted of monolithic obelisks composed of unknown alloys and engraved with beautiful inscriptions and glyphs.
Modern History
Entering the Nareen system in late October 2402, Hypatia Squadron along with the USS Wasp and IKS Mok'tal arrived in response to rumours shared by natives of the expanse and in search of answers regarding the mysterious ‘Shroud’ that once encompassed the expanse. An initial survey of the planet identified the planet to be barren and lifeless, with little signs of anything of note, until the Wasp detected the presence of anomalous metallic structures on one of the northern continents. With there being no risk to life, away teams from across the squadron set up camp at the site of several ruins across the continent and quickly located several obelisk-like structures, in varying state of decay but still very much intact. An in depth analysis of the structures indicated that they were thousands of years old, and the ornate markings engraved on the surface piqued the curiosity of the stellar cartography teams. Their findings determined that the obelisks were part of a map system, suggesting the planet was part of an ancient network of worlds that allowed travel across the expanse.
During the analysis of the planet's surface, scientists aboard the Hypatia discovered impact craters and debris consistent with a horrible truth: Nareen had been subjected to a vicious campaign of orbital bombardment centuries ago, which wiped out the entire planet's populace.
A chance encounter with the Nihari Seer Primus, their scientist and historian, revealed that their people once inhabited the planet Nareen, only to be destroyed by the Draxan Imperium at the height of a bitter feud. With the fall of the Shroud, the Draxan threat loomed large over the Nihari people once again. Only once the threat abated did the Hypatia negotiate with the Nihari government to allow them to complete their planetary survey of the planet.
