Deneva System

From Bravo Fleet

The Deneva System (Kappa Fornacis) is an inhabited star system in the United Federation of Planets. It is a trinary star system consisting of Kappa Fornacis A, B & C. Its only natural inhabitable planet, Deneva Prime closely resembles that of Earth but is about ten percent larger in size. The system also has an asteroid belt with a decommissioned dilithium mining operation. Approximately 74 lightyears from the Sol system, it was not the first of Earth’s nearby human colonies but it was one of the early settlements in the 22nd century. It is densely populated but has had some population decline in recent decades due to shifting markets and trade routes.

Overview

The Deneva System was settled by humans in the early 22nd century and had huge ties to the Earth Cargo Service. It quickly became known as a system of trade and commerce at the time, with a population boom in its first fifty years post-colonizaiton. The Deneva System has seen its fair share of troubles over the centuries. The first of such was a Klingon occupation during the Federation/Klingon war, which was brutal even by Klingon standards. The scars of that occupation can still be felt centuries later, but the inhabitants of Deneva Prime take pride in that heritage and proudly maintain one of the quadrants most robust and historically accurate Klingon/Federation war museums.

Not even a decade after the Klingon occupation, the colony suffered from a devastating parasitic infestation that killed many inhabitants. It took decades to recover from these horrific events but what was born from the loss was the Deneva Biomedicine Institute. It goes without saying that the people of the Deneva System are resilient and have taken the tragedies of life and made as much good with it as possible.

An old Watchtower-class starbase named Deneva Station sits in orbit of Deneva Prime and was once pride of the system as it was one of the first of its class built. It has been upgraded and modernized so it can continue to meet the needs of residents and visitors to the system. It remains, however, a touchy point for some as promises of a larger and more modern station have been made and undelivered for years.

In Play

  • The residents of the Deneva System take pride in their heritage and the challenges they have overcome through the centuries. There is still a strong sense of community and belonging among those native to the system, despite its large population. The residents of Deneva Prime are known for their welcoming and hospitable nature, a very ‘give the shirt off your back’ type of people.
  • While trade and commerce have slowed down in the Deneva System some, as new trade routes have formed over the decades, it is still a busy hub of activity with lots of connections to the civilian cargo transport industry.
  • The Deneva Biomedicine Institute was established thirty years after the parasitic infestation that killed many on Deneva Prime. It is an award-winning facility that conducts medical research and specializes in producing niche pharmaceuticals. Currently there are two vaccines they produce and supply to the quadrant that are incredibly difficult to replicate with the same efficacy as a naturally made variant. This supply is important to several species prone to the particular viruses that the vaccines target and prevent.
