Cait System
The Cait System is an inhabited binary star system in the Alpha Quadrant. Also known as 15 Lyncis, the Cait System is located approximately 55 parsecs away from Sol, and is visible from Earth in the constellation of Lynx. The system consists of an evolved giant star, an F-type main sequence star, and two planets. One of the planets is uninhabitable, and the second is the M-class planet Cait, with two moons. Cait is the homeworld of the United Federation of Planets member-species Caitians.
Overview
As a long-standing member of the Federation, Cait is a modern marvel of automated luxury. Caitians want for nothing, and are free to spend their lives exploring their highest selves. The urban planning of its continents reflects the polarisation of the Caitain people, some seeking to better themselves through philosophy and innovation, while others seek greater states of presence within their natural bodies. The cities are densely populated and highly industrialised, and they're spread out to allow suburban and rural spaces in between, for those Caitians who prefer wide open spaces for hunting. Much of the atmosphere of Cait is humidly tropical, including a spectrum from rainforests to grassy plains.
Located close to the Kzinti border, and on the spinward edge of Federation space, Cait has enjoyed alternating periods of booming trade and relative isolation, depending on the Federation's attitudes towards expansion over the centuries. During Starfleet's golden ages, Cait has served as the last port of call for traders and explorers or the first taste of home for those returning to Federation space. While there has been little development across the system beyond the planet Cait, the M'Yengh Shipyards have extensive orbital and planetary facilities.
By the close of 2401, Cait has recovered from the Dominion Incursion into the Deneb Sector. While the planet's own security and defences have been rebuilt, the resources of Cait have been stretched thinly in support of the rebuilding efforts across the Deneb Sector. Cait has not been left undefended. However, in the earliest day of 2402, there were gradually mounting personnel and supply shortages, while the Caitain governmental bodies and Federation Security have been focused outward.
In Play
- Like many of the oldest Federation worlds, Cait is the exemplar of the modern utopia. There are many Caitain colonies and Starfleet facilities across the Deneb Sector, and the natural beauty of Cait attracts many travellers and traders from across the Federation.
- While all appear solid after the planet's recovery from The Lost Fleet, there are gaps and weaknesses to be exploited, while the entire planet's focus is on rebuilding its neighbouring colonies.
