Hodian Belt
More actions
The Hodian Belt is a series of four star systems that were birthed from their stellar nursery less then a billion years ago. Stretching in a curved string spanning roughly 8.5 lightyears it sits on the near edge of the Norma Arm of the Milky Way, 18 lightyears coreward of Gamma Doradus and minus 15 lightyears on the z axis. The nearest Federation facilities are Eos Station and the Reserve Depot at Piridia.
History
Discovered in the late 2200s, it was first charted in the 2311, and first surveyed in 2348. Being more then a sector away from the Romulan border and low on the galactic Z axis, it is remote with no other populated systems within 4 days travel in any direction. Being made up of newly formed stars with chaotic inner systems, the area was a low priority for follow-up exploration and colonization. It has only a single Federation colony which was formed in the Delta Hodia system in 2365 on the planet known as El Doradia. With just over ten thousand residents in 2399, it was a small but prosperous dilithium and tritanium mining colony. During the initial rush to the Belt in the early 2400s its population doubled in two years and by the summer of 2403, its population had nearly doubled again. With two new commercial spaceports being constructed in recent months, the area had seen an increase in shipping, surveying, mining, and prospecting operations from various local and regional powers, as well as a commensurate rise in the level of piracy, smuggling and crimes in general. A cell of Fenris Rangers who formerly operated on the border near T'met now operate in the region.
System Catalog
Alpha Hodia- The youngest star system to be formed. It is a binary system with a G and an M-type star. It has two terrestrial planets, one Mars sized and the other being %150 the mass of Earth. There is two gas giants and a single large ice giant. It is rich in Dilithium, Trilithium, Tritium and show signs of potential Tricobalt deposits in the inner solar system. Navigation is severely restricted due to the chaotic nature of the bombardment episode with the orbits of both stars out to 10AU resembling a massive asteroid belt being continually pelted with asteroids and icy bodies.
Beta Hodia- A single B-type giant blue star, with one terrestrial planet, three gas giants and three ice giants. The Orion Syndicate and a Ferengi Corporation operate a large outpost on a moon orbiting the furthest ice giant. the system is rich in Neodymium, Tritanium, Tritium and Dilithium. Much of the inner solar system had not be properly surveyed since it was first charted in the 2370s and navigating anywhere within 5AU of either star is extremely dangerous.
Cappa Hodia- A trinary system with an A type star orbited by two hyper-dwarf K class stars. It contains five proto-terrestrial planetoids, two gas giants, four ice giants, and a D class super-earth sized rocky planet that orbits the A type star at a range of 70-80AUs, but it is considered in the habitable zone due the the heat and size of the star. The system is rich in Dilithium and Trilithium, and has signs of being rich in Latinum and Tritanium on some of its inner bodies. It is the largest system in the Hodian belt, spanning approximately a light year and a half in diameter. Several Ferengi owned mining firms operate in its Oort Cloud and Keiper Belt regions, and the Kzinti and Nybarite Alliance have been working on seperate missions to try to chart and clear approach lanes to provide access to the inner systems.
Delta Hodia- A large F type star system with three terrestrial planets, three gas giants, three ice giants, and a rare M class superearth that orbits near the outside edge of its habitable zone. It is the oldest of the stars in the Hodian belt and is the only system that lies within territory currently claimed by the Federation. The reclusive First Federation operates a trilithium mine and refinery on a moon of one of the outer ice giants under a deal with Federation going back several decades. It is rich in Dilithium, Tritanium and Neodymium. The Federation has a mining colony with a population of about eleven thousand on the cold superearth planet known as El Doradia that orbits in-between two of the gas giants. Navigation of the interior of the solar system is possible but still hazardous as the chaotic bombardment episode has waned over the past 2 million years, but not fully ended yet.
Resources
Being from one of the early Third Generation nurseries the entire area is rich in valuable minerals and resources. There are proven deposits of Tritanium and Neodymium in all four systems, and there has been recent discoveries of large deposits of Dueterium and Trilithium. Some news outlets report that a Ferengi mining outfit have discovered a Latinum deposit in the Hodia C system with an estimated yield of upwards of 6.5 million bricks of GPL, though those reports are unsubstantiated. Much of the larger mineral and resources deposits are located on small frozen planetoids in the remains of the protoplanetary disks of the system roughly 30-100AU from each star. The inner systems of all but Delta Hodia are in chaotic heavy bombardment episodes, which prevents permanent colonization or large scale mining operations. But still the discoveries and growing interest had just started in the 2403, with the news reports about the Latinum find leading to a mini "Gold Rush" in the area with adventurous miners, both legal and illegal along with entrepenuers, wanderers, pirates, smugglers, and thousands of other people wanting to strike it rich.
