Graviton Shielding System
The Jem'Hadar Battle Cruiser was the Dominion's primary heavy assault craft. Where the Jem'Hadar Fighter was a quick and nimble attack craft the battle cruiser is slow and heavily armed and armored. The battle cruiser has never been seen to operate alone, instead they can be seen escorted by several fighters in a task group formation or as part of a larger Dominion Fleet.
The battle cruiser has a crew of five hundred including the Commanding Vorta and is capable of transporting a total of two thousand ground troops. Like all other ships in the Dominion Fleet the battle cruiser's primary weapon system is the Phased Polaron Beam weapons the ship is equipped with. The battle cruiser is also equipped with three torpedo launchers that cover the froward firing arc. The battle cruiser is also equipped with eight centimeters of high density armor covering the otter hull allowing the battle cruiser to linger in a combat zone after their shields have been compromised and absorb damage that would damage less armored vessels. The bridge of the battle cruiser is similar to the bridge of other Dominion ships in that there is no main view screen and exterior views of the space around the battle cruiser is only available to the Vorta and Jem'Hadar first though their headsets.
Prior to the completion of the weapons upgrades to Deep Space Nine just prior to the Dominion War a single battle cruiser was seen as a credible threat to that station. The battle cruiser full fills the role of battle ship and heavy assault ship and excels in bombarding enemy targets with their torpedoes and Phased Polaron Beams. In ship to ship combat they can be out maneuvered by ships of a similar size and ships like those of the Sovereign Class can engage a battle cruiser with a reasonable expectation of victory.
During the Dominion War annalists of the available data by Starfleet intelligence indicated that two distinct variants of the batter cruiser was fielded by the Dominion. There are several minor differences between the two variants but the best way to tell them apart is the shape of the warp nacelle supports. The first variant encounter and therefore know as the type-1 battle cruiser the nacelle supports form an upside down "V". The type-2 battle cruiser the nacelle supports form a upside down and flattened "U" shape. At this time there is not enughe information to determine if these differences point to two different classes of battle cruiser or are just variants of the same class of ship.
