Janoor III is a Federation world near the Breen/Federation border. An M-class planet, Janoor III was originally founded by human settlers during the mid-23rd century, but is now home to people from many Federation member worlds.

In 2375, during the Dominion War, Janoor III was attacked by a Dominion force consisting of Jem’Hadar, Cardassian and Breen ships. The Dominion force crossed from Breen space into Federation territory and launched a surprise attack on the Janoor system. The few Federation Alliance ships in the system were quickly defeated, with only one ship managing to escape intact.

The Dominion quickly moved to occupy the planet, with Jem’Hadar, Cardassian and Breen troops landing on the planet and taking control of the major population centres. Their treatment of the local population was brutal. Any attempt at resistance was quickly rooted out, and the people involved were tried in kangaroo courts before being publicly executed.

Starfleet launched an attempt to drive Dominion forces out of the system but were repelled by Dominion reinforcements from the Cardassian Third Order. The planet remained under Dominion control until the end of the war.

In the years since the end of the Dominion War, the people of Janoor III have worked to rebuild their planet but the scars of the occupation, both physical and mental, remain.
