One of the premier leisure venues of Starbase Bravo, the Golden Apple is a bar, restaurant, and recreation centre spanning several decks of the station's Promenade. Favoured by Starfleet officers, particularly the station's crew, its multiple rooms and varied offerings make it an attractive location whether visitors want a quick drink or a good meal, a raucous gathering or an intimate meeting, or to stay fifteen minutes or four hours.
Location and Layout
The Apple's premises stretch across several decks. The main floor sees the majority of traffic and is what most people think of if you mention the establishment, but the floors below offer quieter areas for a casual cup of coffee or a proper meal away from the hustle and bustle of the bar. The staff in all sections are holograms, programmed to serve food and drink and welcome all customers. Algorithms as sophisticated as those of any holodeck program read the behaviours of guests and the holographic staff will adapt as needed: if engaged, they will banter and joke; if disregarded, they will provide service and give visitors privacy.
Main Bar
The Golden Apple has an unassuming entrance on the upper levels of the Upper Promenade that leads directly to the main bar. Cosy and welcoming, the main floor is low-lit without being gloomy, with polished wooden floors and comfortable seating. Visitors can grab a chair in one of the quieter booths lining the bulkheads, on the hard-back chairs around the wooden tables on the main floor, or at the bar itself. The decor boasts a mix of modern and old-fashioned fixtures and pictures, and though the latter are an eclectic mix of aesthetics and symbols that may be mismatched or outright fictional, they contribute to the bar's overall quirky character.
The bar is well-stocked with bottles of drinks from a hundred worlds, though can serve anything from the replicator. The main bar also serves food, and though it is all replicated, the establishment limits food on that floor to 'bar food': sharing platters, bowls of fries, nuts, or chips, bread and olives, etc. For a proper meal, visitors should descend to the lower levels. Drinks can be served at the bar, but to avoid crowding, holographic staff provide table service.
Because of its popularity with Starfleet crew, the Apple is busy all day round - someone is always off-duty. The area immediately around the bar usually enjoys a quiet buzz, with the more raucous crowds and atmosphere deeper into the main floor, around the larger tables and booths beyond the bar itself. There is an upper balcony level to the main bar, a narrow platform running the periphery of the floor, which is a perfect spot to grab a table and watch the world go by or enjoy a more private conversation.
Lower Levels
One level below the main bar is the Golden Apple's restaurant. Its decor and style are similar to upstairs, with tables laid out to serve parties from two to eight. Larger groups may be fitted in if they book in advance. Service here is table only, with replicated food on offer. While visitors may thus order theoretically anything, the Apple rotates a weekly menu of 'specials', which can often introduce people to new food from different cultures. The atmosphere in the Apple's restaurant is quiet and comfortable, a place to enjoy good food and good company. Starbase Bravo has venues like Vandorin's Bistro for those looking for a gastronomic experience; the Golden Apple is a pleasant and reliable place to have dinner with friends and colleagues.
Below the restaurant is the floor referred to as 'the Snug', which serves as the Apple's café. Occupying a narrower space flush with an exterior bulkhead and, thus, window views, the Snug's furnishings are an eclectic mix of mismatching sofas and armchairs, wooden tables that may wobble, and patterned rugs and throws. From a small barista bar, visitors can acquire hot drinks, cold drinks, and pastries. The Snug has its own exterior entrance leading to a quiet corner of the lower levels of the Upper Promenade, so visitors who want to have a hot drink without walking through a busy bar can slip in. The Snug is an unassuming venue where visitors may grab an armchair by a window with a book for hours and be left undisturbed, or meet for a cosy coffee date away from the hustle and bustle of Starbase Bravo.
In Play
- The Golden Apple is the setting for Bravo Fleet's first Discord RP setting, allowing BF members to write casual interactions together. Characters in this RP must be BFMS characters, but do not have to be part of the Starbase Bravo game - officers visiting from other ships can participate in the Discord RP. Other BFMS writing may freely depict the Golden Apple.
- The Apple is split into three areas to meet different interests: a bustling bar, a comfy restaurant, a cosy cafe. Visitors can move between these floors freely, but RPers should be mindful of what is happening where.
- The Golden Apple is favoured by Starfleet officers - though civilians may visit. It is a great place for characters to raucously blow off steam or have a quiet drink, but it is not a rowdy location. This is not a place to have a bar fight.
