The USS Goddard (NCC-73308) is a Nebula-Class Federation starship. The Goddard currently serves in the Fourth Fleet’s Task Force 47 in the Gavarian Corridor.

Goddard Summary

The USS Goddard is a 10-year old, recently refitted, Nebula-class starship assigned to Bravofleet's Task Force 47. She is charged with escorting a convoy of vessels through the Gauntlet to the Talusian system and, in orbit of Talusian III, building a Regula II-class starbase that will be commissioned Deep Space 17, to serve the needs of the Federation and her ships in the Gavarian Frontier.

The Goddard's mission is very simple in theory, escort the convoy to Talusian III and oversee the construction of the starbase. However, it's not all wine and roses as the Goddard and her crew will have to work within reach of two powers; the Cardassian Union to the 'northwest', and the Romulan Star Empire to the 'southeast'. Her ability to keep the two factions at bay, yet still get Deep Space 17 built and operational, will be what determines the Goddard's success or failure.

The USS Goddard was commissioned in 2375 in one of Starfleet's growth periods, specifically in order to send ships to help out in the Dominion War. She served valiantly throughout the war, and returned at the end of the war to Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards in orbit of Mars for refit and repair.

Starfleet Command has determined that, with the lack of a stationary presence at the far end of the Gavarian Corridor, a great weakness exists in Starfleet's defensive and intelligence gathering operations in Task Force 47. In conjunction with Admiral Barak Aubrey (Commanding Officer, Bravofleet), Admiral Teylas Ramar (Executive Officer, Bravofleet), Vice Admiral Cabot Shaw (Chief of Operations, Bravofleet) and Rear Admiral Thalek th'Zorati (Commanding Officer, Task Force 47), plans have been executed for the construction and maintenance of a new space station at the far end of the Gavarian Corridor. This space station, to be designated Deep Space 17, will serve as a resupply platform for Federation ships traversing the corridor, a defensive platform for Federation interests, and an intelligence gathering platform for maintaining and improving Federation intelligence on both the Romulan Star Empire and the Cardassian Union.

The Starfleet Corps of Engineers has been enlisted with the task of building this station, and to that end Commander Richard MacNichol and the USS Goddard, NCC-73308 have been reassigned to the Gavarian Corridor and are charged with the successful construction and defense of the new station as their primary mission. Secondarily, they are also charged with responding to any and all SCE related emergencies within their range in the Gavarian Corridor.

USS Goddard arrived at Deep Space 10 in 2385 to receive crew and mission orders from Thalek th'Zorati, commanding officer of Task Force 47. She also convened with the convoy she would escort to the far end of the Gauntlet, which carries many of the parts that will be used to construct Deep Space 17. Her journey through the Gauntlet was mainly uneventful, save for an incident while passing the Il'Trian system, near the midpoint of the Corridor.

Midway through her journey through the Gauntlet, the Goddard detected a strange radiation reading from Il'Trian Prime, which is known to have a former Cardassian Obsidian Order base hidden on it. The Goddard sent staff and a runabout to investigate, but they were intercepted at the planet by a Romulan warbird, forcing them to land on the planet and to take refuge in the radiation that could kill them. The Goddard had to abandon their convoy and risk their quarry to go to Il'Trian Prime to aid the crewmembers they sent and to fend off the Romulans preventing them from coming home.

The Goddard arrived at the Talusian system, after a two-hundred day passage through the Corridor at low warp, without further incident in transit. Upon her arrival, she immediately set about building construction facilities on the surface of Talusian III, as well as beginning the construction of Deep Space 17 in orbit of the planet, using the parts that have traveled through the Corridor with the convoy.

The Goddard also hosted the first interstellar peace conference since the end of the Dominion War. Converging aboard the Goddard are the Cardassian and Romulan delegations, looking to negotiate the joint use and administration of Deep Space 17. However, while negotiations are ongoing, the Haess III and USS Trinculo are both attacked by Cardassian Galor-class warships, bringing in to question the disposition of the Cardassians to negotiating in good faith, not to mention opening a window for the Romulans to potentially take advantage of the situation.

Upon the completion of the Deep Space 17 mission, the Goddard was recalled to the Antares Fleet Yards for refit. She has remained there for 18 months.

Since the signing of the Gavarian Armistice Agreement, the Goddard has been recalled to Deep Space 10 by Task Force 47 commanding officer Rear Admiral Mitchell Hanson. Her former captain, Richard MacNichol, has been recalled from the Starfleet corps of Engineers as well to command her once again.
