The USS Discovery (NCC-92422) is an Odyssey-class Federation starship and has been assigned to the Fourth Fleet as Task Force 17 flagship since 2401. One of the newest of her class and one of the few constructed in the 25th century, she was launched from Avalon Fleet Yards and named in honor of her predecessor, a Century-class starship lost in the Delta Quadrant during the Blood Dilithium crisis.

Operating primarily out of the task force's headquarters at Deep Space 17 in the Typhon Frontier, Discovery provides deep space support to Starfleet ships on exploratory missions ranging far from the Federation border.

Nickname & Linage

The Discovery was named in honor of six previous starships that shared the same name.

Service History

Construction & Launch

The Discovery was launched from Avalon Fleet Yards in 2401 under the command of Captain Dawson. After conducting a shake-down cruise throughout the Avalon system, the ship was assigned to Task Force 17 as its flagship. Its mission is to provide transportation for the Task Force 17 leaders, as well as being a frequent carrier of ambassadors and flag officers.

Task Force 17's Flagship

After construction finished on the Discovery it was assigned to Task Force 17's as its new flagship to replace its destroyed predecessor. Following its construction and subsequent assignment to Task Force 17 it was placed under the command of Captain Romaes Anjin. The commander of Task Force 17 at the time of its assignment. After Captain Anjin resigned from the position of commander of Task Force 17 it was placed under the interim command of the ship's executive officer Captain Samuel Edwards. A few days following Captain Khim Samnang would assume the position of commander of Task Force 17 and would be given command of the Discovery.

Operations

Flagship Operations

Since the Discovery was assigned to Task Force 17 as its flagship when acting in a transportation or ceremonial need the ship was under the command of the commander of Task Force 17.

Starship Operations

Due to its status as the flagship of Task Force 17 general starship operations of the Discovery, including Engineering, Operations, Security, Medical, and Science are principally overseen by the ship's executive officer Captain Samuel Edwards.

Configuration

The Pier

Much like the USS Odyssey, the Discovery has a chevron section along the edge of its hull with its own promenade of bars, restaurants, clubs, cafes, and recreation facilities known as The Pier. These facilities are normally hosted by civilian members of the crew with help from holographic hosts/staff. The Pier is able to host entertainment facilities for all members of the Discovery.

Club 46

Located along The Pier, Cube 46 was an establishment built during its construction in 2400. The design appeared more like a Ten Forward lounge found on a Ross-class ship. After it was built, it was a preferred place to go for some of the junior crew.

USS Discovery In-Play

  • Discovery is the flagship of Task Force 17. Orders from the TFCO would come from this ship.
  • As the flagship for Task Force 17, Discovery is often available to provide logistical support to ships on deep space operations. She can offer smaller vessels resupplies, repairs, and medical aid, or can conveniently take samples, guests, or other plot curiosities off the hands of a crew so they can get back to deep space.
  • The Discovery is under the command of Commander, Task Force 17. If they choose to not use the Discovery then Samuel Edwards is the commanding officer.
  • Involvement in the Discovery should follow the Task Force Writing Guidelines.
