This is a small region of space which has been documented by several species and has been given many names.  It is universally called, Spacial Anomaly 987.623.  Any ship venturing too close to the this region has never survived and no one truly knows what is contains.  There are an array of theories explaining its existence ranging from a wormhole, to a temporal distortion, to hostile aliens, to a constant focus of Chaotic Space.  There are a number of warning beacons around the anomaly telling ships to stay clear.  Getting a lock on the anomaly is challenging and scans have been erratic and inconclusive.
