Class Design Brief
The Solkar Class cruiser is a small two deck vessel primarily designed for transporting diplomatic personnel. Like many ships of Vulcan design the Solkar class has a single warp ring but unlike the majority of Vulcan ships the Solkar class's ring is missing the top 1/3 of the ring and the upper ends of the ring make a ninety degree turn so the end over the dorsal surface of the ship's hull. Just bellow each of these ninety degree turns are the attach points were the warp ring is connected to the ship's hull. The ships of this class are equipped with two single emitter phaser banks with one mounted to the dorsal surface of the hull and the other mounted to the ventral surface.
The top deck is the primary deck of the Solkar Class. This deck houses the ship's bridge at the forward most point of the deck. The dinning hall and transporter can be found just aft of the bridge flowed but the guest and crew quarters. Each guest quarter is set up to house a single person while the crew quarters can house two people. The ship's life support systems can be found at the aft most point of this deck.
The lower deck is the ship's engineering deck. At the forward most point of this deck is the ship's docking port and access way to the upper deck. Moving aft of the docking port is the cargo bay and then the waste management systems. The Ship's engineering bay and impulse engines are located at the aft most point of the lower deck. When the ship is in flight the landing gear is stowed between the deck and outer hull.
Class Service History
Work on designing what would be the Solkar Class started in 2231 under the direction of the Vulcan High Command to replace older outdated diplomatic vessels. Was was needed was a small ship to ferry diplomatic officers between Vulcan and the other members of the Federation. By 2236 the design had been finalized and reviewed by the High Command and construction was started on the Solkar at the S'Lara Regional Ship Yards later that same year. Construction was completed in 2239 and the Solkar was launched for a final series of systems tests by ship yard personnel prior to Vulcan High Command taking official delivery of the Solkar in 2241.
The Solkar proved to be well designed for it intended task and even found a place as a privet ship for the more predominate families of Vulcan. By the mid 2280's the Solkar Class had become the bulk of the diplomatic fleet and the only ship class used for diplomatic missions by the mid 2290's. The Solkar Class served the diplomatic core of the Vulcan High Command until 2315 when High Command began phasing the aged class out of serve. While the last Solkar Class vessel was removed from Active service by High Command in 2321 many ships of this class continued to be operated by private individuals for decades afterwards.
