USS Atascadero (NCC-87080) is a California-class multi-mission light starship currently assigned to Fourth Fleet's Task Force 86, operating in and around The Triangle region. Produced at the Avalon Fleet Yards and launched in 2386, the Atascadero incorporated the latest Starfleet technologies available at the time. While classified as a Multi-Mission Support vessel and capable of a wide spectrum of missions, the Atascadero specializes in low-level diplomatic and administrative missions that, while often unglamorous, are essential to Starfleet's long-term goals in the region.

USS Mariner NCC-97607 is a Pathfinder-class vessel assigned to Task Force 86 in Fourth Fleet. The vessel is currently under the command of Captain Sazra Kobahl. While being assigned to Task Force 86, the USS Mariner finds itself in unknown territory to perform their deep-space science missions.
DESIGN AND LAYOUT
Externally similar to her California-class sisters, the Atascadero has a large, circular primary hull, two large nacelles suspended below the primary hull, and a small secondary hull mounted between the nacelles. A "clean sheet" design intended from the beginning to fulfil second-line support duties, the California-class has largely replaced the older Miranda, Constellation, and Excelsior-class ships which had been modified for these missions when their usefulness as front-line units had diminished. Unlike the sleek lines of larger explorers and cruisers which are optimized for speed and tactical situations, the California-class is a pragmatic and utilitarian design which has an ungainly appearance, but has proved its value to Starfleet many times over since its introduction in 2368.

History
The Atascadero was laid down in 2381 at the Avalon Fleet Yards as part of the fourth batch of the class ordered by Starfleet and was expected to be completed by the end of 2384. However, with the impending Romulan Supernova, all of Starfleet's resources were diverted to constructing the largest evacuation fleet in history, delaying production on lower-priority projects. The attack on the Utopia Planitia Shipyard caused further delays in starship production and the Atascadero was finally launched in December 2386, almost two years behind the initial schedule.

The Mariner is a Pathfinder Class that has been introduced in 2400. Starfleet has produced a certain amount of these ships to serve as the most advanced ships in the fleet and in the field of science. Mariner is therefore assigned to perform deep space scientific missions that will benefit Starfleet in exploration of the unknown. The ship was constructed at Devron Fleet Yards has received its shakedown course late 2400 and has entered service in 2401 under the command of Captain Sazra Kobahl
One advantage of the delayed production schedule was allowing the most up-to-date subsystems to be included in the ship. Some of these advanced subsystems include an Advanced Environmental System, specifically in the VIP quarters, which allows the ship to accommodate nearly any form of sentient life. Also included was an Advanced Communications Suite, which allows the ship to send encrypted and secured holographic communications through the subspace network. Finally, numerous small incremental improvements have been incorporated into all Starfleet ships, differentiating the newest ships of the class from those built nearly 20 years prior.

VIP FACILITIES
As one of the California-class ships designated primarily for diplomatic and administrative support missions, the Atascadero includes three large VIP suites for visiting dignitaries, diplomats, and high-ranked Federation officials. The suites include not only an expansive VIP cabin, but also an anteroom and a half-dozen smaller adjoining cabins suitable for attendants, aides, or relatives of the VIP. These adjoining cabins are smaller but just as finely appointed as the larger VIP cabin. Each suite is a self-contained habitat, including dedicated environmental and communications systems, as well as the ability to quarantine from the rest of the ship if necessary out of medical or security concerns.

Fourth Fleet Command reaches out to Captain Kobahl with details of a mission regarding the arrival of the Lost Fleet. They are to travel into unknown territory since the Dominion War, the Gamma Quadrant. The Mariner travels to the Gamma Quadrant, where the Command Team choices to withhold the information from its crew and only tell them what they needed to hear. But this wall of lies would not hold when Captain Kobahl announces their true purpose as they arrive at the Dominion borders. Tension rises among the crew, lies and misinformation was spreading while the crew was waiting for the Dominion to respond to their request.
Also included among the VIP facilities is a holodeck reserved exclusively as a meeting space for VIP's. This holodeck can produce any environment that is appropriate for any species in order to provide an environment which would be conducive to peaceful and productive negotiations. As with the VIP suites, this holodeck has dedicated environmental and communications systems, as well as enhanced security features which allow confidential negotiations to take place without fear of eavesdropping.

But when the Vorta twins arrived as representatives of the Dominion, the boiling point was reached and a mutiny started to unleash. The mutiny was under the leadership of Lieutenant Shew, who manages to take control of the bridge for a brief moment. The mutiny failed and all mutineers were arrested. Thought Captain Kobahl choices to not report it to Outpost Opaka as the urgency was to big and even let her Communication Officer Ensign Asipa fabricate false orders.
DIPLOMATIC STAFF
While all Starfleet Captains are authorized to negotiate on behalf of the Federation, as the Atascadero often serves as a diplomatic transport and meeting place, Starfleet has seen fit to assign officers to the ship who specialize in diplomacy to assist the Captain or other Federation representative who may be embarked for a diplomatic mission.

The Mariner skipped communication with the Deep Space 9 and was marked to be disabled. While en route to Ciatar Nebula a sabotage happened and communications was down. This poses a threat to the safety of the crew and completion of the mission. The Mariner arrived at Ciatar Nebula to buy Chief Engineer Commander Valerio time to resolve the communication problems while avoiding getting killed by the Dominion battle group. USS Serenity, USS Valhalla and USS Andromeda responded to give aid to the Mariner as they succeeded to deliver the Dominion representatives after communications were repaired.
- Diplomatic Attaché: While not an ambassador or envoy themselves, the attaché is nevertheless an essential part of the diplomatic process. As a specialist in Federation policy, negotiation decorum, and liaison with other Federation organizations outside of Starfleet, the attaché ensures the formalities of negotiation are appropriate and adhered to. Like most officers aboard California-class ships, the Diplomatic Attaché is typically a junior officer on their first independent assignment and answers to a higher authority at the Fleet level.

On the response of the Fourth Fleet call to arms, the Mariner joined the Battle of Farpoint. After that she returned damaged to the port of Starbase 86. After Captain Kobahl delivered the mutineers and wounded to the starbase personnel, Starfleet JAG came in to arrest the command team for their neglecting duties in this mission. Captain Kobahl would have lost her rank as Captain and her command if the Fourth Fleet Command wouldnt redact that order later on.
- Judge Advocate General: As an advisor on the finer points of Federation and interstellar law, the JAG officer is responsible for researching and reviewing all relevant legal statutes, jurisprudence, and traditions. The JAG officer is also responsible for ensuring any legally binding documents generated during negotiations (e.g.- treaties) pass legal muster before they received the appropriate signatures and seals. This is a common first assignment for junior JAG officers immediately after earning their Juris Doctorate (or equivalent) degree and subsequent commission.

The Mariner is a Pathfinder-class long-range science vessel. She is part of the first batch of Pathfinders that got constructed in 2400. The ship specializes in extreme ranges. While she is not meant for long wandering missions and focuses on specific areas of space, she is equipped with more science labs than the Nova or Grissom. The science labs are each equipped with specialization of long-distance scientific research. Such as astrophysics, planetary scanners and more. The ship has better equipment to operate longer than the ship class is designed for, and it can operate long duration on unknown planets with specialized hazard equipment.

One of the things that difference the Mariner from her sister ships is the choice of interior color. The hallways have an aqua with light green as a color. The bridge has a more metallic feel to it while the mess hall or any recreation room more a beach feeling. The ship is more emerge into the Mariner theme.

Design & Layout
The following information concerns the layout of the USS Mariner in various locations. Locations such as the bridge, captain's mess, engineering and more.

The Bridge
The bridge design is focus on efficiency and quick operations. But also build for long-deep and scientific operations that is reflected into the bridge design. The design is a reflection of the Intrepid-class, the Sutherland-class and Diligent-class with the focus to reflect the Mariner mission. It is easy to move around and yet gets the feel of sections of various departments.

Behind the command section is a space dedicated as the primary Mission operations area where a holographic display is installed to quickly get latest information. Normally the Pathfinder-class doesn't require a Chief Intelligence Officer or mission advisor, but if it was for temporary assignment they would work in this location to get a quick overview. The holographic display has the function to turn into a table to provide a 3D map of planetary or stationary areas.

Also included among the VIP facilities is a holodeck reserved exclusively as a meeting space for VIP's. As with the VIP suites, this holodeck has dedicated environmental and communications systems, as well as enhanced security features which allow confidential negotiations to take place without fear of eavesdropping.
