Ethysaan Ch'chirrit (referred to as Ethysa) is the current commanding officer of Starbase 93. A career engineer, he has served in starship engine rooms, as construction lead for two large starships, and as a staffer at Starfleet Engineering. Measured and logical, he will delay decisions until he is absolutely sure of his options and their ramifications, defying the hot-headed Andorian stereotype.

History

Early Life

Born in mid-2349, Ethysa was raised in the city of Laikan on the Andorian homeworld. One of eight siblings, Ethysa, was a calm and quiet boy. He was always found with his head in technical manuals or being caught tinkering with one of the household devices by his parents. If he wasn’t making or building something, he was sitting in his room staring at the stars through his own telescope. When he showed great promise in his education around the technical sciences, he was encouraged by his parents to pursue a career in Starfleet.

Starfleet Career

Starfleet Academy

In 2357, Ethysa was accepted into Starfleet Academy. During his four years as a cadet, he specialised in engineering. He excelled in many classes, especially structural engineering and warp specialism. He came to the attention of many of her lecturers. One of them, Captain Eric Cornwall, went on to command the USS Springfield (NCC-5730). He was so impressed by his then-student that he used his influence to ensure Ethysa was assigned to his ship when she graduated.

USS Springfield (NCC-5730) (2361-2365)

Being posted to the Springfield class prototype was undoubtedly an experience for the young ensign. Assigned as a damage control officer, Ethysa was suited to his duties as he always enjoyed taking something apart and fixing it straight away. He performed admirably during his time on the Springfield; he would manage the engineering station on the bridge during beta or delta shifts. In 2363 he was made a lieutenant junior grade and assigned to lead a damage control team.

By 2365 he was encouraged by his superiors to seek further challenges in his career and started applying for ships with openings for an assistant chief engineer. Before the end of the year, he was lucky to be accepted to join another ship.

USS Tennyson (NCC-72016)

Joining the Nebula-class starship USS Tennyson (NCC-72016), Ethysa found the much larger vessel one of the biggest challenges to his career to date. Not only was he learning a brand new ship, but he was also responsible for a larger team and more involved in the leadership of a whole department. His new job also came with the promotion to full lieutenant, and stepping up to the challenge was one he initially struggled with. His first six months came with some turbulence as he attempted to assert his authority but ended up alienating everyone under his command. After his superior shared some wise words with him, Ethysa was able to rebuild the relationships and ended up creating a more robust team underneath him. Five years on the Tennyson built him up to become a better engineer and leader, giving him the boost needed to take on his new role as chief engineer on a new assignment.

USS Ushaan (NCC-63553)

As chief engineer on board the USS Ushaan, an Akira-class starship populated with an entire Andorian crew, Ethysa initially struggled with being surrounded by his kind. It had been long since he had just been with only Andorians; he had become accustomed to many different traditions and cultures from the various Federation members he had previously served with. However, he got used to it and soon made good friends with those he served alongside.

Remaining with the Ushaan for the next six years, Ethysa would experience the terrors of war as the ship was assigned to the frontlines of the Dominion War. For a ship that carried many fighters, it was involved in many of the more significant battles during 2375. Keeping the ship together was a tough challenge, especially when the vessel was consistently called to defend the Federation border. However, as the war started, Ethysa got into a routine with his department on how they managed to keep the ship repaired and battle-ready.

When the war ended, Ethysa was asked by his captain to take on the role of the second officer. Entering the command side of things was appealing, and after completing several training programs, he was made a commander by the end of 2376.

The Ushaan became like a second home to Ethysa, and in 2378 he eventually found love and married his bond group in a traditional Andorian ceremony. A year later, he was a father to triplets. When his bond group wanted to settle down on the Andorian homeworld, Ethysa was approached by the Starfleet Corps of Engineers with an attractive offer, one he couldn’t turn down.

Starfleet Corps of Engineers

Made a captain, Ethysa was assigned to the Starfleet Corps of Engineers detachment assigned to Andoria. He had command of his own vessel, a Saber class, when needed, but most of his work was based on the Andorian homeworld. Solving a range of problems was good, allowing the captain to focus on his family life. Five years back home among family and friends was exactly what Ethysa needed, but when he was asked to move, he was able to convince his family to join him after Starfleet commissioned Starbase 93 and the Devron Fleet Yards.

Starbase 93

Moving to the Devron system was an easy transition for him and his family, but Ethysa would find his gifts and talents as an engineer and leader put to the test once again as he was given a range of projects to oversee. The most notable ones included the supervision role for the construction of the USS Yorktown (2385-2389) and the USS Polaris (2389-2394). Both projects were massive, but he was awarded for his efforts in ensuring both projects were kept within their timescales. When the role of Assistant Director for Shipbuilding came up in 2394, he immediately applied for it. He was in this role for over five years before the command of the entire shipyard was handed over to him, and with it came a promotion to commodore.
