History and Culture

Very little is known about the Gorn after the first contact between UFP and the Gorn in 2267 which involved a preemptive strike by the Gorn Hegemony when they attacked the Federation colony Cestus III.

Physical Characteristics

Reptilian species of sentient bipeds native to the Beta Quadrant.

Like the reptiles on Earth, The Gorn are cold-blooded, they have green, rubbery skin and often taller than humans with their height on average around two metres. According to reports, they often tend to be stronger than most humanoids and prefer warmer temperatures.

Their ears are simple holes on the sides of their skulls, while their mouths boast an impressive array of sharp teeth and their hands and feet possess vicious claws.

Until at least the late 23rd century, Federation and Gorn technology were at a similiar level. Gorn ships were capable to match the speeds of Constitution class vessels as the only option to overtake them was to push the ship's engines over the safety limit.

Survivors of the Cestus attack in 2267 described their weapons as being like "phasers, only worse" but this was later clarified as the fact that the Gorn used disruptor technology similiar to the Romulans and the Klingons.

Their shields are capable of taking a substantial attack with little or no damage.

It has also been reported that they have transporter technology and the capability to produce voice duplicators equipment that have been known to trick people.

During the Cestus III attack their ground units utilized disruptors which were able to completely obliterate their targets between 1,200 and 1,500 yards. At the time their sensor technology was deemed as being less effective than the Federation as they were unable to target the landing party during the ambush but have appeared to have solved that problem recently.
