Class Information

Borg Sphere interior

The Borg Sphere is the second most often encountered type of Borg vessel with only the Borg Cube being encounters more often. Like all Borg ship types the Sphere has no structures that are obvious drive systems or any other system one would expect to find as part of a ships hull. The interior of the Sphere has no sections with set functions that would correspond with similar sections of other ships such as crew quarters, bridge, or engineering room.

In 2373 a Sphere was observed exiting the interior of a Borg Cube at the point of the Cube's destruction during the Battle of Sector 001. Shortly there after a controlled contrition burst was detected coming from the Sphere. This caused a temporal vortex that allowed the sphere to travel back in time in an attempt to stop the flight of Earths first warp capable vessel. The Enterprise E followed the Sphere trough the vortex and destroyed the Sphere in 2063. Wreckage of this Sphere was later found in the arctic circle in 2153. This is the only known instance of a Borg vessel making use of time travel. How often Cubes carry a Sphere is not know but studying records of observed spheres by crew of the USS Voyager has show that somewhere around twenty percent of all cubes are equipped with the large bay doors need for a sphere to enter and exit a holding bay.

In 2378 a Borg Sphere exited a Transwarp conduit inside the Sol System causing Starfleet to scramble a hastily assembled fleet of ships. As the fleet approached the Sphere exploded and reviled the USS Voyager had destroyed it from inside the Sphere.
