Due to the new nature of the class though she has been fitted with the standard complement of facilities designed for a ship with a multi-mission role. As her missions change and evolve her Captain and the fleet may determine that the more specialized facilities may be needed.

In general the vessels main facilities are remarkably similar to those of the intrepid class in both design and layout. Many of the features and primary spaces such and the bridge and engineering could easily be mistaken for those of the intrepid but for the state of the art equipment that is found through of the ship.
Sarek Squadron was first constituted by Task Force 17 command, in partnership with the [[Romulan Free State]], upon the commissioning of the USS ''Sarek'' in 2400, under the command of Captain Taes.  Operating out of [[Deep Space 17]], the squadron was primarily assigned to broaden the Federation's understanding of the anomalous mysteries of the Typhon Expanse and the frontier beyond.  As a mobile research platform with near-starbase capabilities in every scientific specialty, the USS ''Sarek'' was charged with reaching for the stars by solving imminent scientific mysteries, often amid humanitarian or diplomatic crises.  The USS ''Blythe'', by comparison, served as the roots of Sarek Squadron.  Its social sciences crew settled onto planets to reach deeper understandings and relationships with the civilizations briefly touched by the USS ''Sarek''.

From the initial conception of its commissioning, Sarek Squadron was designed as one of Starfleet's great experiments to improve diplomatic relations with the Romulan Free State.  Inspired by the Federation and Bajor's partnership at Deep Space 9, the USS ''Sarek'' was launched with a team of seventy-five civilian scientists from the Romulan Free State permanently embedded in the ''Sarek''<nowiki/>'s science department.  The very first Chief Science Officer assigned to the USS ''Sarek'' was held by a Romulan Free State science minister, [[bfms_char:60485/|Flavia ir-Llantriant]].  Aboard the USS ''Blythe'', half of the science department was staffed by Romulan Free State scientists.  Although the Sarek Squadron was assigned scientific mysteries of great import, the real mission was for both crews to work as one.

Given the notable archaeology and anthropology prowess of Captain Taes and Flavia ir-Llantrisant, they were granted joint oversight of Sarek Squadron's mission planning to make full use of their combined expertise without limiting the USS ''Sarek''<nowiki/>'s mission capacity.  The USS ''Sarek''<nowiki/>'s first mission was to mediate treaty negotiations between colonists on the planet Tenope in the Typhon Expanse and the sentient clay they discovered to be native to the planet.  When the USS ''Sarek'' moved on after negotiations were successful, the USS ''Blythe'' returned to Tenope to further the dialogue and study with the sentient clay.  The USS ''Sarek'', meanwhile, was dispatched to the [[Delta Quadrant]] in support of the [[Blood Dilithium]] campaign.

On the surface the layout of the '''USS ''Sojourner''''' bridge looks almost identical to those of the Intrepid class abet modernized with holographic displays for the LCARS and an additional sensors control station linked directly to the secondary deflector.

[[bfms_char:52632|Commander Kirin Tarken]] treats her captain's ready room as an extension herself. The desk resembles the standard desk found in most star fleet vessels. It is light grey and the accompanying chair nestled behind the desk was a deep burgundy. The primary console is equipped  with a 3D holographic display built into the right-hand corner of the desk. The only other noticeable feature on the desk is a small potted Risian Fern and a small picture frame with an image of a young Orion girl and her parents, a Orion women in Lieutenant Commander uniform and a Risian man in shorts and a loose shirt.
 
In addition to the desk and her primary console there the room is dominated by the large viewport and sofa which is located beside the replicator. This is often uses for meetings with the crew, senior or otherwise, to give an more informal feel. The sofa is a rich burgundy, matching the desk chair. The circular table that the sofa curves around has a small holographic display in the middle allowing for the projection or information when needed.  
 
As with most Captains the room is decorated with items that have been collected over the course of her career. The USS Sojourner is a Pathfinder-class starship built in 2400 as a modernized and specialized version of the Intrepid-class light explorer, intended to handle scientific and exploration missions far from Federation space.
