Light Explorer is a Starfleet type classification for vessels smaller than explorers which are capable of long-range unsupported missions across Starfleet's core mission types: exploration, diplomatic, humanitarian, and defensive. They are generally similar in size to the cruisers of other powers, but with much greater range. They are distinguished from Starfleet heavy cruisers by their range.
