"The Earth is the cradle of humanity, but mankind cannot stay in the cradle forever."
    —Konstantin Tsiolkovsky

Deep Space 17 is a Canopus-class station located past the edge of Federation space core worlds from the Romulan Free State in the Lioh system. Its primary mission is to support long-range exploratory missions deep into the Beta Quadrant, which are spearheaded by the Fourth Fleet's Task Force 17. A week away at maximum warp from the nearest major starbase, this is the last way-station for vessels headed towards areas of space never before explored. It is currently under the command of Commodore Py'Tellan.

Deep Space 17 In-Play

  • Deep Space 17 is the headquarters of Task Force 17. As the headquarters of Task Force 17, Deep Space 17 is often available to provide logistical support to ships going beyond the Federation border. She can offer smaller vessels resupplies, repairs, and medical aid, or can conveniently take samples, guests, or other plot curiosities off the hands of a crew so they can get back to deep space.
  • If you're a new officer in Task Force 17, you'd likely spend some time here before you're assigned your own command, either leading a hazard team, honing your diplomatic skills through training exercises, or in some other capacity on the base.
  • Deep Space 17 has access to nearly every class of Starfleet runabout.
  • With its position on a dangerous frontier, DS17 is home for explorers and researchers, but also officers charged with its protection and negotiators stopping tensions from simmering over. While many live and work here with their families, it is a more difficult and dangerous place for civilians to live than many other stations.
  • Starships stop here to resupply before venturing into either deep space or the Typhon Expanse and can be supported by the station's maintenance team. Serious repairs or support will necessitate a return to Federation space.
  • Involvement in Deep Space 17 should follow the Task Force Writing Guidelines.
