Starbase 611 is a Jupiter-class station in orbit of Cestus III. Under the purview of Starfleet, Starbase 611 is primarily responsible for the creation and development of colonies along the Federation border in the area. Additionally, the station is tasked with the continued support of budding colonies as they continue their growth. Along with Deep Space 2 on the other end of the Federation's border with the Gorn Hegemony, Starbase 611 serves as an anchor point against Gorn aggression as patrol ships route between the two stations to monitor the border.

History

Starbase 611 was originally built as a research outpost on the outer edges of the Cestus system. However, in the 2340s when the re-colonization of Cestus III was beginning, the station was moved inwards to its current position in orbit of the planet. From there, the station could defend the planet and also serve as a supply point. As the Cestus colony flourished, Starbase 611's role in the area increased as well as it began to take on more and more colonization support duties in the entire area.

By 2401, the station fell under the overall authority of the Fourth Fleet's Task Force 21 and continued its support of operations along the Federation frontier. In the same year, with renewed interest in the area, the station was supplemented with several defense satellites to complement the station's paltry built-in defenses.

Crew of Starbase 611

Commander Mortan, Commanding Officer — A Benzite male who served much of his Starfleet career as a botanist. Upon entering the command tract in Starfleet, Mortan applied his knowledge and love of botany to help support colonization efforts in areas where supplies were difficult and planetary resources would need to be utilized to jump-start a new colony. His efforts grew into helping colonies become self-sustaining. Eventually, he was given command of Starbase 611 to help oversee colonization throughout the area.

• Starbase 611 is an old research station that has been repurposed into primarily a logistical station for colonial development.
• Because of her original purpose as a research station, 611 is still in her original defensive configuration and relies heavily on orbital defense satellites to supplement the defense of Cestus III. The station could defend itself and the planet against a small group of raiders. But if the Gorn, or others, were to press the attack the station would heavily depend upon other ships to defend.
